Overview

Quality control testing of blood components is required to assure blood products meet AABB standards and FDA regulations. Your Lab can assist in determining if your components meet these requirements.

Products and Services

  • Quantification of residual white blood cells is performed using fluorescence microscopy. The 510(k) approved NanoEnTek ADAM-rWBC provides accurate and reliable leukocyte detection for qualifying leukocyte-reduced apheresis platelets and red blood cells.
  • Bacterial detection utilizing the 510(k) approved Biomerieux BACT/ALERT Detection System for qualitative procedures for the recovery and detection of aerobic and facultative anaerobic microorganisms for quality control testing of apheresis platelets and Acrodose pooled random platelets prior to release and consignment.
  • Platelet and white and red blood cell counts are performed on the Sysmex XE-2100D

Lab Management

Maria Reutz has been Manager of the Quality Control Testing Laboratory since 2004. After receiving her BS degree in Medical Technology from The University of Texas and completing board certification through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, Ms. Reutz joined the Blood Center staff in 1988. With over 15 years of laboratory experience in the capacity of Manager/Supervisor, she oversees the quality functions related to testing of blood components and compliance with regulatory requirements.
