EDUCATION
Gulf Coast provides several lecture and seminar offerings throughout the year that are open to the public. Speakers include internal and external experts from a variety of disciplines. Topics range from the latest advances in blood-related basic research to clinical application of diagnostic laboratory testing and quality processes in blood bank management to the role of transfusion in managing patients with special and/or long-term transfusion needs.
Gulf Coast is equally devoted to teaching and training activities. We routinely welcome medical residents/fellows and SBB, MT, and MLT students into our laboratories to share our experience and knowledge. We are one of a few centers in the United States offering a Specialist in Blood Banking program. This is designed to provide medical technologists with the knowledge and training necessary to advance their careers in immunohematology.
Additionally, Gulf Coast provides research grants to promote research and development in all scientific, medical/technical and administrative aspects of blood banking and related activities. We can tailor presentations to meet the needs of a particular audience or to reflect a particular subject or emphasis.
