QUALITY CONTROL TESTING LABORATORY

Quality control testing of blood components is performed to assure products meet AABB standards and FDA regulations. Your Lab can assist in determining if your components meet these requirements. Testing available includes:

• Quantification of residual white blood cells is performed using flow cytometry. The BD FACScan technology offers superiority over all other hematological methods of qualifying leukocyte-reduced apheresis platelets and red blood cells.

• Bacterial detection using Biomerieux's BacT/ALERT 3D Blood Culture System has the capability of accurately detecting minute numbers of aerobic and anaerobic organisms in platelet products. Contaminant organisms are specifically identified using traditional methods.

• Platelet and white and red blood cell counts are performed on the Abbott Cell-DYN 3700 SL
